One of Japan's oldest festivals, faithfully reproducing the costumes of Heian-era nobles. The "Roto-no-Gi" (procession) with over 500 participants is truly a moving museum of beauty.

Highlight Schedule:
Around 10:30 AM: Departs from Kyoto Imperial Palace. The elegant procession begins.
Around 11:40 AM: Arrives at Shimogamo Shrine. The "Shoto-no-Gi" ceremony is performed.
Around 3:30 PM: Arrives at Kamigamo Shrine.

Crowds: Annually, tens of thousands of spectators visit the roadside. The area around the "Saio-dai" (Imperial Princess's proxy) in particular becomes very crowded, so we recommend securing your spot early, preparing a hat to block the sun, and getting ready well in advance.
Traffic Regulations: Temporary road closures and bus route changes will be implemented in central Kyoto City in conjunction with the procession's passage. Please allow ample time for travel.
Enjoying a Stroll: After enjoying the procession, forest bathing in Shimogamo Shrine's "Tadasu no Mori" (Forest of Truth) or tea time along the Kamo River will be even more picturesque in a yukata.
